7 Bible Verses About Slavery
Slavery still exists. But often, it goes unnoticed. As Christians, what should our response be? How can we become more aware, and what can we do to engage? What does the Bible have to say about slavery? Here are seven Bible verses to consider:
1.Galatians 5:1
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened by a yoke of slavery.”
2.Hebrews 2:14-16
“Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.”
3.Romans 8:15
“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’”
4.Romans 8:20-21
“For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
5.Deuteronomy 23:15
“If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand them over to their master.”
6.Galatians 3:28
“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
7.Luke 4:18-19
